Layered Portraits by Izere Antoine
Emerging Rwandan artist, Izere Antoine, is making a name for himself with his beautiful, nuanced portraits, laid thick with paint, as though to signify the depth of experiences his subjects have beneath the surface.
Through his paintings, Izere talks about life. From the choices that are ours to own, to the need to do little things to help someone and strengthen relationships. He also talks about women, and how their contributions to society have been significant. But even in stillness, Izere portrays strength, but still a sense that there is beauty in sharing and in community.
