Textures with Ludovic Nkoth
Ludovic Nkoth calls himself ‘Texture Papi’ on his Instagram bio. We agree. The Cameroonian-American fine artist uses an abundance of layered textures of acrylic paint to bring stories and portraits of himself, his friends and family to life. His work is an unapologetically beautiful celebration of the Black man and his culture and lifestyle.
Ludovic also uses his works to touch on social issues that people usually like to ignore. For example, his ‘The Fight for Ambazonia’ tells a tale about Southern Cameroonian declaration of the independence of Ambazonia from Cameroon - to this day not fully resolved. Or his recent works, ‘You Sea Us’ a solo exhibition that brings to light the struggles of African immigrants in Europe. Many of his works also reflect his jarring experience of being defined by his skin for the first time after leaving Cameroon for the US as a young boy.
Ludovic’s work can’t help but feel intensely personal, to both him as an artist and the society at large - like with this powerful piece.
