Quilting tthe American South by Erin Mitchell
American artist, Erin LeAnn Mitchell, celebrates the tradition of quilting by Black Americans in the American South. The Alabama-born artist uses a host of media, from fabric to buttons, glitter, yarn, and even feathers and vinyl, to describe and edify the past lives of Black American ancestors. In one artwork, a cut out cockerel runs off with an excited person on its back, thrilled in the height of adventure. In another, a quilt shaped like a home depicts several families together.
