Take Me To Space by Manzi Jackson
Rwandan artist, Manzi Jackson, makes our imaginations explode with his ‘Take Me To Space’ series. The visual artist uses a mix of bold, diverse colors to create ethereal and enticing spaces where female astronauts are exploring worlds afar. But even as they explore, they are becoming one with the organic flora that they encounter - and a beautiful symbiosis occurs.
This is ultimately a depiction of strength and adventure which the Black woman undertakes, unshackled. But also a beautiful illustration about adaptability and how opening yourself to new worlds and possibilities can create wonders.
““Take Me To Space” is an entity not limited to earth and I explore that mysticism in these portrait series as muses are dressed in astronaut suits taken over by organic wonders. In this body of works I’m interested in using vibrant depictions of women to evoke femininity, and creating a universe of how I perceive a futuristic setting, as an homage to all Black women.” ~ Manzi Jackson
We love everything in this series, but see some of our favorites below.
