The Future by Alexis Tsegba
Nigerian artist and collagist, Alexis Tsegba, draws us into her imaginations of how Black future could be. She imagines worlds that are downright fantastic with her different perspectives - whether it’s people being close to (in fact, almost one) with nature, or are riding the stars and being one with them too.
The digital artist uses a beautiful mix of collages that tell dream-like, Afrofuturistic stories, which we only hope can come true. And in these stories, she depicts perfect harmony between tradition, culture, and technology showing that advancement and transformation is possible without compromising any of these.
Tsegbe explains some of her inspiration to Nataal magazine - “I am interested in dreaming what our futures are going to be like as people of color. I want to imagine how things could change, how we could integrate technology into our local cultures on the continent and how that could make things better for all of us.”
