Pyrography with Alex Peter Idoko
With the rise of hyper-realistic art in Nigeria, Alex Peter Idoko stands separate because of his unique use of a pyrography technique - the use of fire as an art medium! The Nigerian artist is self-taught and uses a unique set of tools - fire, razor blade, charcoal and sandpaper on wood - to create his signature burnt, deep and earthy feel. And while this art form is in itself fascinating, Alex goes further to use much of his art to speak about societal issues. For example, in one piece, a young man passionately shouts against injustice while slowly inspiring another young man to speak up. In another, a woman ponders deep issues within herself - will she speak up and act?
Overall, Alex’s paintings are pretty fascinating! See some below (and see a previous feature here).
