Rejuvenating with April Kamunde

Kenyan artist, April Kamunde, shows us what it means to catch a breath. The Kenyan painter uses her oils to create images of women who are at rest - taking a well deserved time out that is hard to come by for most women who break their backs to work both outside and inside the home.

Each woman is clad in the Somali dress called Dera, a dress that is the epitome of relaxation. The freeing and unrestricted outfit is prominent in April’s paintings. And while clad in this Dera, each woman is communing (mostly) silently and quietly in nature. We love this concept and how it reminds us to remember to be calm and let the sunlight in.
